Post-operative Care: Endodontics and Exodontics

PROCEDURE: ENDODONTICS

PRE-PROCEDURAL RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • If you suffer from any major illness, it is important that you are under prior medical control.

  • Please note that the tooth that is going to require a root canal for prosthetic purposes is important to have a provisional tooth previously made by your dentist.

POST-PROCEDURE RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Ingest soft diet.

  • Do not eat within 1 hour.

  • In case of pain, take an analgesic such as acetaminophen.

  • Once the endodontic treatment has been performed, it is necessary to take into account that the treated tooth must be rehabilitated in the shortest possible time to avoid superinfections.

CONTROLS: Clinical and radiographic control every 6 months.

WARNING SIGNS: In case you feel spontaneous sharp pain in the tooth where the root canal treatment was performed or inflammation in the gum and/or sharp pain when chewing, go to ORAL LASER or call 4440840 and contact your treating Dentist.

PROCEDURE: ENDODONTICS

PRE-PROCEDURAL RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • In case you are under medical treatment of anticoagulation with Warfarin, Aspirin, you must stop taking them 1 week before prior appointment with the treating physician who must authorize their suspension in writing. In case you have any heart disease related to valves and/or murmurs, history of rheumatic fever or endocarditis, you must take an antibiotic that your treating dentist will prescribe you to take 1 hour before the procedure. If you are being treated for osteoporosis or you are taking biophosphonates, you must inform the dentist beforehand because you may present osteonecrosis.

PRE-PROCEDURAL RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Do not perform dental rinses in the next 12 hours, nor try to spit or touch the wound.

  • No physical activity, no sun exposure.

  • Perform good oral hygiene, cleaning gently in the operated area.

  • It is normal that in the next 24 hours there is a slight bleeding, in such cases bite a gauze for 30 minutes constant. If bleeding increases or remains longer, consult immediately.

  • Mild pain is normal over the next 24 to 48 hours. If it persists, consult immediately.

  • Refrain from smoking for the next 5 days.

  • Do not eat hot foods for the next 24 hours.

  • Eat cold foods for the next 24 hours.

  • Purchase and consume the medications prescribed by the dentist.

  • Go to your follow-up appointment to remove the suture or check the wound as directed by the dentist.

CHECKS: go weekly for revision and suture removal.

WARNING SIGNS: in case of abundant bleeding, noticeable swelling, bad odor, bad taste in the mouth and acute pain after the procedure, go to ORAL LASER or call 4440840 and contact your treating dentist.
